Coast2Coast Episode #12 - A New Frontier

My little marketing company has been doing a lot of work lately for Teradek. Teradek is an engineering company who specializes in video surveillance recording equipment that integrates access control, license plate recognition, GPS location, video recording, IP multicasting, and more. They're friends of mine and they're good people.

Teradek has been generous enough to sponsor the electronics for my trip... I think they want their marketing guy back. :-) For this I am extremely grateful.

I've just received my new Garmin eTrex Legend HCx. This is the latest hand-held, moving map, color screen GPS unit from Garmin. I'm loading it with the City Navigator software which contains every road in the US and Canada and six million points of interest. So basically, every gas station, hotel, camp ground, In-n-Out Burger... you name it! It's in there.

I bought a 2GB microSD card so that I can upload the maps from the computer to the GPS and fuck me that microSD card is small!! For $29 you get a card with 2 friggin gigs and it's only the size of my fingernail. Holy bujeebus! It makes a Compact Flash card look like an IBM Mainframe circa 1970.

I got the handlebar mount and it works great. I'm considering adding the power adapter, but it adds a few bucks to the cost, and I'm not sure it's worth it because the battery consumption is pretty low.

We'll see.

And as long as we're talking about electronics, Gwen generously gave me a 2GB iPod Shuffle for Valentines Day. I've got the Shure E2C sound isolating headphones and the combination is brilliant. I'm putting together a few 500 song mixes for the trip (it's all just BritPop, but that's our little secret...). That should do the trick!
